STAFF EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Too many orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) in Africa are growing up in situations of scarcity without education, healthcare, strong parental support etc. In countries like Kenya with very weak or practically non-existent social safety nets, indigenous CBOs are also struggling to survive. Many do not have the resources or enough staff with the right skills and training to enable them to effectively address OVC related challenges. LDK is no exception to this.
Due to financial limitations, most indigenous organizations like LDK have hardworking and committed staff members who work for very long hours serving their respective communities on voluntary basis (without a corresponding payment for the services rendered).
There are numerous challenges that arise when working with orphans and vulnerable children that require staff to frequently get updated on how to handle such challenges when they arise. This ensures that they remain effective in their work and serve the poor communities even better, once equipped with skills and knowledge.
For this reason LDK prioritizes staff empowerment program to support its staff with new skills aimed at improving services and serving the needy even better. For example, teacher Clarice Odhiambo (our long serving nursery teacher), has trained in Early Childhood Development program up to a certificate level. For her to handle the vulnerable children and even the special cases, she needs further skills and training for this. Given that she does volunteer and has her own family, supporting her to acquire additional skills and be able to build her career while at the same time helping communities solve their poverty related problems is a worthy and genuine cause.
Staff allowances:
Again, our staff work for very long hours and as volunteers, despite the fact that they have their own personal responsibilities and challenges in life. They have to individually and separately pay for their house rent, food, utilities and even transport to the place of work. Many have dependants whom they support. They need a salary and an allowance to enable them to meet their personal daily needs with ease, as they continue serving the needy in the society.
An individual, or group / organization or a corporation may offer to support our staff empowerment program or our staff salary / allowances account by making a financial contribution towards either of the schemes for a period of time. Such a donation will ensure that our staff are also empowered both through skills training and economically. This will also motivate them to remain effective and productive to the programs that they are individually responsible for.
All financial contributions / donations in support of LDK’s programs can be directly sent to Learning and Development Kenya bank account:
